This is my 21st year of teaching...man you guys are getting an oldie but a goodie!
My Family
I am married to JR Boyce and have been for more than 20 years. I have one son, Gage, who is a 12th grader who attends Bellevue East High School. I also have one daughter, Kristen, who is a 11th grader who also attends Bellevue East High School. I have two sisters who are both married and live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in Colfax, Wisconsin. I have three nieces in Minneapolis, Lucy, 7, Jill, 3, and Ruby who was just turned 1 in May. In Wisconsin, I have one niece, Gina, 11, and one nephew, Jake, 11. My mom moved to Georgetown TX last year, so I have had to learn to live without her in town. My husband's family also lives in Bellevue. He has two sisters too. I have two grown nephews, Justin and Mike, and one grown niece, Serra. His mom is here too!
My Schooling
I went to elementary school in Bellevue at Birchcrest Elementary and St. Mary's Elementary School. I went to Daniel J. Gross High School and graduated in 1988. I attended University of Nebraska at Kearney for college and graduated in December of 1992 with a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education. I moved home and got married. We lived in Bellevue for a while and I taught Resource in a Special Education classroom in Murray NE for Conestoga Public Schools. In 1995, my husband and I moved to a farm in Nehawka, NE to raise a family. My son and daughter were both born while we lived there. While on the farm, we had access to cows, chickens, and ducks. In 1999, I moved my teaching career to Bellevue NE, and got a job teaching fifth grade at LeMay Elementary. I taught there for 8 years before moving to Fairview Elementary in 2007, still at fifth grade. In Aug. 2011, I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to teach fifth grade at Two Springs for one year. Last year, I was able to move back to Fairview as a fourth grade teacher. I was so excited to learn new curriculum and experience a new grade! I was blessed to be able to teach again with my old LeMay friends, Mr. Garrett Sims, and Mrs. Colleen Hosick. This year, 2013, I am moving back to fifth grade and so excited to get this opportunity to work with my dear old friends Mr. Larry Walls, and Mr. Dominic Gillen in the grade I love so much. One last bit of schooling... I received my Master's degree from Lesley University in 2007 in Curriculum and Instruction in the area of art integration.
My Students
I am passionate about teaching, reading, and the arts. I work hard to foster a love of reading in my students. I also work to help them become responsible, organized, and independent as they prepare to take that leap to middle school grades. I feel that all students can learn and each of them have the ability to move forward from where they are. I encourage them to be forward thinkers, problem solvers, and good citizens. I impress upon them a sensitivity for others and for the world around us. Being smart thinkers and good citizens are the kinds of students I hope to shape by the end of the year.
